Consumer Advisories

Consumer Advisories

(relates to inspection form #26)

Depending on your operation, there are some consumer advisories that may need to be posted. If you serve any type of raw or undercooked animal protein, such as raw fish, raw oysters, raw egg dressings, or cooked to order hamburgers, the establishment is required to disclose which products may contain raw animal protein (ex. Caesar dressing made with raw egg), and also have a visible warning to the consumer that consumption of these products may have possible health risks. This is called a reminder/disclosure. The following is an example of a raw animal protein warning:

There is a risk associated with consuming raw animal protein. If you have a chronic illness of the liver, stomach, blood, or have immune disorders, you are at greater risk of serious illness from consuming these products and should eat them fully cooked. If unsure of your risk, consult a physician.

If your establishment has a customer self-service buffet, you will be required to post a buffet plate reminder. This is a notice stating that customers must get a clean plate upon each return trip to the buffet.

If your establishment does not have a buffet, and are not serving any undercooked or raw animal protein, then no advisories are required.
