February is National Heart Month, an annual event put on by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  It’s a great time for brushing up on your heart health knowledge, making any necessary changes in your own approach to heart health while sharing information on America’s leading cause of death. That includes learning if you’re at risk, why you may be at risk, and most important, how to reduce or prevent that risk.

Here are just a few ideas:

  • Encourage families to make small changes, like using spices to season their food instead of salt.
  • Motivate teachers and administrators to make physical activity a part of the school day. This can help students start good habits early.
  • Ask doctors and nurses to be leaders in their communities by speaking out about ways to prevent heart disease.
